Another freelance site I mentioned joining earlier on was Demand Studios. I applied and was fortunate to be accepted on the same day.

I began writing immediately, and was pleasantly surprised to have my first articles approved within a few days. I was even more pleasantly surprised to receive my first payment just a few days later. Although I'm still not entirely clear when the cutoff date is for payments, they do process them quickly.

The articles are quick and easy to write and I still enjoy them. While the pay is not high, it's not bad either for the effort or time involved. I also really like that it's work I can do here and there and am not obligated to produce a certain amount within a certain time. I also like being able to choose my own topics.

Although I hate to be in competition with more writers to grab the best topics :) I highly recommend Demand Studios for any freelancer wanting some extra work to fill in the gaps between other gigs, or who wants to just make a little extra money.

You can check out my Demand Studios articles, which appear on eHow, by clicking here.

Several years ago I came across this free online Writer's Workbench class from NewsU. Even with many years of experience in all types of writing, I found this quick class very useful. It provided a few good reminders and even a few new things I hadn't thought about.

Registration at NewsU is required, but it's free and the Writer's Workbench tutorial (along with many other classes) are free. Most are geared toward print journalists, but there's still some great writing resources there. I recommend many of them for freelance writers, or anyone who does any writing at all.

I'm going to go through the Writer's Workbench class again. I'm sure there's some tips I've forgotten and some things I could brush up on. I hope some of you will go through it with me to. Feel free to share any comments on the class. I think it's a really great online resource for anyone who writes.

JournalismJobs.com is a great resource for all freelance writers, even non-journalists. In addition to permanent, regular positions, the site lists freelance jobs, internships, fellowships and contests. On the main page, scroll down slightly and look on the left-hand side for the box that says "opportunities." That's where you'll find the link to freelance jobs.

I've found several great one-time jobs from here.

I learned about Constant Content several months ago, but haven't tried it out yet. It is free to sign up. You post articles for sale, they do the advertising, and webmasters purchase articles. Authors don't pay anything unless they sell an article, then Constant Content keeps a percentage of the sale.

I'm normally a little leery of this type of site, but a freelancer I know has been doing fairly well there. Three things that might be helping it to work is that there's not a glut of poor quality writing, all articles are reviewed for quality before being posted for sale on the site, and webmasters can request content on specific topics. One recent request is for articles for an online Christian magazine, that pays $100-$130 per article.

I signed up and am going to give it a try. I won't put a whole lot of time into it, as I'd rather write articles that I know will be published, but it may be a good outlet for those articles I'd love to write but don't have a client waiting for them.

Check it out! Constant Content
